Supplements in pregnancy: a guide for new mothers

What supplements are recommended for pregnancy, when to take them and why they are so important.

It is completely normal to panic a little, because you immediately worry about the health of the fetus.

Don't worry: Here is a short guide to help you understand which supplements are the most suitable.

Supplements during pregnancy? Better think about it first...

During pregnancy, there are many precautions to take, such as thinking about the right amount of vitamins (a fundamental resource for the development of the fetus and its well-being). In fact, when possible (therefore, with planned pregnancies) it is good to start taking supplements before becoming pregnant, in particular folic acid (vitamin B9), which reduces the risk of congenital defects in the fetus (such as neural tube defects, anencephaly, spina bifida and other malformations, including heart disease).

In the period before conception, in fact, it is recommended to take 0.4 mg of folic acid in tablets per day and continue throughout the first trimester of pregnancy.

6 substances to take during pregnancy:

In addition to folic acid in the first trimester, during the wonderful journey that lasts 9 months, it is important to optimize the health of oneself and the fetus, achieving an optimal nutritional state, thanks to the right amount of vitamins, mineral salts and other substances, such as:

1. Iron. Iron deficiency often occurs during pregnancy, which can lead to anemia in both mother and fetus, leading to premature birth, low birth weight, and other, even more trivial, problems such as fatigue.

2. Calcium and vitamin D. Essential for bone development in children and therefore ensuring a healthy and strong skeleton. It should be taken together with vitamin D3 for proper absorption.

3. Vitamin B12. It tends to decrease during pregnancy and is necessary to allow the correct general and neurological development of the baby. In general, those in group B are valuable against spontaneous abortion.

4. Iodine. Important for the development of the fetus' nervous system and should be taken, in fact, from the first trimester until delivery.

5. Omega 3. Helps develop the nervous system and is especially essential during the last trimester of pregnancy.

6. Mineral salts. The main ones are magnesium, potassium, zinc, selenium and fluoride. Zinc and selenium, for example, are essential for boosting the immune system and cell multiplication.

7. Multivitamins.

Pregnancy Supplements for Pregnant Women:
